MIG kill #1 Nov. 06th 1967 MIG-17 Pilot Capt. Simmons & WSO 1LT McKinney jr. with their SUU-23/A gunpod. Callsign: sapphire 01
MIG kill #2 Nov. 06th 1967 MIG-17 Pilot Capt. Simmons & WSO 1LT McKinney jr. with their SUU-23/A gunpod. Callsign: sapphire 01 (Cool, 2 MIG´s at one day)
MIG kill #3 Dec.19th 1967 MIG-17 Pilot Maj. Moore & WSO 1LT McKinney jr. (again), also with SUU-23/A gunpod. Callsign was Nash01
They had to share this 3rd MIG kill with an F-105F 63-8329 of 333 TFS, so actually this F-4D has "only" 2 and a half MIG kills :-)

I hate to tell that this Phantom was shot down on Feb. 16th 1972 by an SA-2 (SAM). Pilot Capt Schwertfeger and his WSO 1LT Galati bailed out but became POW´s. They were released in March 28th 1973.

Aircraft of the 497th TFS ("Night Owls") parked in Able area (late 1967)

This photo was taken from the doorway of Maintenance Debriefing in the late afternoon. During the time I served at Ubon, this was the official parking area of the 497th TFS. Later, after the flightline was extended westward, the 497th TFS aircraft moved into the revetments and Able area became a transient parking ramp.
